The decision for a foundation fund

It was clear that students in Tanzania should be supported and the donations for this purpose should be collected.

The big question, which had to be clarified however was which legal form is the appropriate one.

In the non-profit sector, there are many possibilities: the registered association, the legal foundation, the trust foundation and for some years the non-profit limited company and UG. All legal forms have their advantages and disadvantages. There are differences in the amount of the capital stock, in the size of the founding team, and in the way in which administration takes place. The decision fell to the Founding Fund. The foundation fund provides us with a professional accompaniment by our trustee and the potential to grow into the legal forms trusteeship foundation and lawful foundation.

What is a Foundation Fund

A trust fund is managed by a trustee. At Kipaji, this is done by the non-profit foundation Stifter-für-Stifter. The foundation fund consists of a donation fund and an endowment account.

The endowment fund is invested by the trustee in such a way that the money in it is constantly working and thus earns interest. These may then be reused in accordance with the Articles of Incorporation. The donations to the endowment fund can also be deployed flexibly, in example both short-term and long-term.

The funds of the donation account are again used within the short term or within 2 years also within the meaning of the statutes.

In addition, a trust fund may issue donation certificates by the trustee. Thus the donated donations can be deducted from the tax.

How we work as a foundation

As a team behind the Kipaji Founding Fund, we are responsible for contacting and maintaining our partnerships. In addition, we take over the scholarship process, from the application concept, the selection of our scholarship holders to further contact with our scholarship holders until they are transferred to the alumni network of the Kipaji network. In selecting the scholarship holders, we work closely with our partners, as they often have a very good insight into the family situations of our applicants and scholarship holders.

The administration and accounting of the foundation fund is taken over by the non-profit foundation Stifter-für-Stifter and the Haus des Stiftens in Munich. When the scholarships are disbursed, we are supported by the project service International of the W.P. Schmitz Foundation in Düsseldorf.
